I'm an Aussie born patchwork quilt designer and teacher and the owner of Queen of Fabric in Melbourne, Australia.
My first encounter with patchwork was at the tender age of 8. My mother, Judy Newman, had bought some lovely polar fleece fabric with dogs on it and wished to make me some PJs. I was adamant that the dogs not be cut up and the fabric quickly turned into my 'doggy blanky'; an amusing outcome given that I'm more of a cat person.
It did lead to mum sitting me down at the sewing machine to teach me how a use it, though. I promptly broke a needle and wouldn't go near the machine for a solid 3 months before finding the courage to try again. I've not stopped sewing since!
I've found a deep joy and contentment in sewing, unlike I've found in other creative pursuits. It's the best combination of creativity and relaxation going. And even though my friends call me a 'grandma', I sleep well at night knowing that I'm warmer in winter!
I hope you enjoy my patterns and designs and am looking forward to reaching a point in my life where I may be accused of having too many quilts.
